A neck hump refers to a hard lump protruding at the junction of the 7th cervical vertebra and the 1st thoracic vertebra. In some cases, this condition serves as an early warning sign of cervical spondylosis, a common problem, especially among people who spend long hours playing video games or sitting in front of screens.

Steps to Address It:

1. Relax and Massage the Jianjing (GB-21) Point
The first step in addressing a neck hump is to focus on relaxation and stimulating the Jianjing (GB-21) point. Jianjing is considered one of the most powerful acupoints for overall health and is an important point along the Gallbladder Meridian.

To find this point, place your right hand on your left shoulder. Your palm should naturally rest over the Jianjing point. Massaging this area regularly is essential for relaxation and maintaining overall wellness. Make it a habit to press and massage this area frequently!

2. Start Gua Sha
Once the neck hump has softened, it’s time to begin gua sha. Start at the Fengchi (GB-20) point and scrape down toward the Dazhui (GV-14), then move toward the Jianjing (GB-21), and continue toward the top of the shoulder.

This process may be painful, especially at first, but it’s important to persist over time. The risk of a neck hump is that it can obstruct the flow of vital energy (Qi) and blood to the brain, which can lead to symptoms like blood deficiency headaches, blood clots, and even contribute to dementia in older age.

Why It’s Important

Addressing a neck hump is crucial for both your physical health and mental well-being. By using these techniques—massage and gua sha—you can improve circulation, relieve tension, and prevent long-term complications.

Regular attention to these simple practices can have a profound impact on your overall health, so take a few minutes each day to support your body and mind.
